Introduction
Salman Khan ( 27 December 1965) Born Abdul Rashid Salim Salman Khan on, he is a leading Indian actor, producer, and television personality associated with Hindi cinema. Over a career spanning more than three decades, he has received two National Film Awards as a producer and two Filmfare Awards as an actor. Despite frequent controversies, he remains one of the most commercially successful and widely recognized figures in Indian cinema, appearing on Forbes lists of the world's highest-paid celebrities in 2015 and 2018.
The eldest son of screenwriter Salim Khan and Sushila Charak, later Salma, Khan was raised in a culturally diverse household. His father's marriage to actress Helen in 1981 initially strained family relations. Khan began his acting career with Biwi Ho To Aisi (1988) and rose to prominence with Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), directed by Sooraj Barjatya. He consolidated his stardom through successful films such as Baaghi: A Rebel for Love (1990), Saajan (1991) with Sanjay Dutt, Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), Karan Arjun (1995), and Biwi No.1 (1999).
Following a brief decline in the 2000s, Khan re-established his career with Wanted (2009), leading to a period of sustained commercial dominance. Major successes included Dabangg (2010), Bodyguard (2011), Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Kick (2014), Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), Sultan (2016), and Tiger Zinda Hai (2017). Subsequent films saw mixed reception, though Bharat (2019) and Tiger 3 (2023) performed well. He has starred in the highest-grossing Hindi film of the year on ten occasions.
Khan is also a prominent television host, notably of Bigg Boss since 2010, and founder of the Being Human Foundation, which supports education and healthcare initiatives. His production company, established in 2011, contributes to these philanthropic efforts.
His off-screen life has been marked by legal and personal controversies. The 2002 hit-and-run case resulted in initial conviction later overturned on appeal. In 2018, he was convicted in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case but granted bail. His relationships, particularly with Aishwarya Rai and Vivek Oberoi, drew public attention, while a 2008 dispute involving Katrina Kaif led to a rift with Shah Rukh Khan.
Khan has also faced criticism for controversial remarks, including comments in 2010, 2016, and 2025, as well as for endorsements and political appearances. Nonetheless, he remains an influential figure in Indian popular culture, balancing sustained box-office success with philanthropic initiatives.
