Joi Baba Felunath (The Elephant God, 1979) A Bengali-language mystery film written and directed by the legendary Satyajit Ray, Joi Baba Felunath is a landmark entry in the iconic Feluda detective series. A sequel to Sonar Kella (1974), it adapts Ray's own novel and unfolds within the ancient, labyrinthine lanes of Varanasi, one of India's holiest and most atmospheric cities. The story follows the astute private investigator, Prodosh Chandra Mitra, better known as Feluda, on vacation in Varanasi with his cousin-cum-assistant Topshe and their endearing friend, the crime-fiction writer Lalmohan Ganguly (Jatayu).

Scene Description With a sense of imminent conclusion, Maganlal approaches Mochhli-baba to handover the offering- precisely his smuggled wealth. Along with everyone, he is stunned to see a gun pointing at him from Mochhli-baba's red overclothe. With careful iconic tidiness, Felunath (imposter of the rough sadhu) corners Maganlal and fires bullets around his silhouette counting his crimes. With perfect irony, the last bullet makes Maganlal pass out into the arms of emerging police officer. (20/29)

                          Film Title

Joi Baba Felunath (The Elephant God), 1979, India, Bengali

Scene Description With a sense of imminent conclusion, Maganlal approaches Mochhli-baba to handover the offering- precisely his smuggled wealth. Along with everyone, he is stunned to see a gun pointing at him from Mochhli-baba's red overclothe. With careful iconic tidiness, Felunath (imposter of the rough sadhu) corners Maganlal and fires bullets around his silhouette counting his crimes. With perfect irony, the last bullet makes Maganlal pass out into the arms of emerging police officer. (20/29)
