Introduction
Bees Saal Baad (1962) was a psychological thriller film directed by Biren Nag in his directorial debut. Produced by Hemant Kumar, who also composed the music and lent his voice to some songs, the film stars Biswajeet, Waheeda Rehman, Madan Puri, Sajjan and Asit Sen. A loose adaptation of the Bengali thriller Jighansa (1951), which itself drew inspiration from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Hound of the Baskervilles, Bees Saal Baad also takes cues from Hemendra Kumar Roy's novel Nishithini Bivishika.
The film became a massive hit in 1962, topping the box-office and earning the status of a "super hit." Its success was driven largely by its haunting music, particularly the iconic song "Kahin Deep Jale", sung by Lata Mangeshkar and written by Shakeel Badayuni. This song earned both Mangeshkar and Badayuni Filmfare Awards for Best Female Playback Singer and Best Lyricist, respectively. साल 1962 में रिलीज़ के साथ ही बीस साल बाद कामयाबी की बुलंदियाँ छूने लगी और इसने टिकट खिड़की पर शीर्ष स्थान हासिल करते हुए 'सुपर हिट' का तमगा हासिल कर लिया। फ़िल्म की इस सफलता के पीछे बड़ा कारण इसका संगीत था। उसमें भी ख़ासकर शकील बदायूनी का लिखा और लता मंगेशकर का गाया गाना "कहीं दीप जले कहीं दिल" जिसने लोकप्रियता की बुलंदियाँ छू लीं। इस गीत के लिए लता मंगेशकर को 'सर्वश्रेष्ठ पार्श्व गायिका' और शकील बदायूनी को 'सर्वश्रेष्ठ गीतकार' का फ़िल्मफ़ेयर पुरस्कार मिला। इस गाने के साथ जुड़ी एक ख़ास बात यह भी थी कि यह गले की गंभीर बीमारी से उबरने के बाद लता मंगेशकर का गाया पहला गाना था। बीमारी इतनी गंभीर थी कि गले के इस संक्रमण के चलते उन्हें कुछ समय के लिए गायन से विराम लेना पड़ा था।
