The covers of cassettes, LP records, CDs, DVDs, and VHS tapes in Indian cinema are more than just packaging; they are artistic and cultural artefacts that reflect the era's aesthetic sensibilities as well as marketing strategies. The classification CINE.rec preserves these visual treasures, documenting their role in shaping the cinematic experience beyond the screen.

Vinyl records, in particular, are highly sought-after by a niche community of passionate collectors. These records, featuring cover art based on the films, not only carry music but also feature iconic dialogues that have been played, memorised, and absorbed into popular culture over time. The film's soundtrack is often released prior to the film itself, serving as its first impression and generating anticipation among audiences. The cover designs of film DVDs and CDs often differ from theatrical posters due to change in dimensions and distributor's choice, making them unique collectibles for cinephiles.

The artwork on these covers establishes a visual relationship between cinema and print media, influencing how films are perceived and remembered. As promotional tools, they merge artistic expression with market demands, offering insights into the intersection of commerce and creativity in Indian cinema. By preserving these materials, the CINE.rec archive provides a vital resource for studying the history of film marketing, popular culture, and the enduring relationship of cinematic music and the imagery invoked through its cover art.
