Sonar Kella (1974) Released internationally as The Golden Fortress, the film is a masterful cinematic adaptation of the mystery novel by legendary Bengali writer and filmmaker Satyajit Ray. Marking the screen debut of Ray's iconic detective Feluda, the film stars Soumitra Chatterjee as the astute sleuth, alongside Santosh Dutta, Siddartha Chatterjee, and Kushal Chakraborty. It was the first in Ray's celebrated Feluda series and was later followed by Joi Baba Felunath (The Elephant God). The film's ensemble cast also includes notable performances by Kamu Mukherjee, Harindranath Chattopadhyay, Haradhan Banerjee, Shailen Mukherjee, Ajoy Banerjee, Bishnupada Rudrapaul, Santanu Bagchi, Bimal Chatterjee, and Ashok Mukherjee. The prelude to the film introduces us to mysterious case of a little boy, Mukul who gets up at night and starts drawing pictures of unknown lands, sandy hills and palaces that possibly relate to his previous life. He remembers a golden fortress, colourful gemstones and wars fought with swords, bows and arrows. Mukul's parents are concerned about his irrate behaviour. He keeps drawing, talking about a past life and never smiles.
