Bhagat was, perhaps, the pioneer in using craft media and techniques for his sculptural creations. He was one of the out-standing sculptor of his time who provided a break through from the use of clay and Plasterof- Paris and the Western style of realism in vogue since early part of the century... He had been much influenced by the works of Archipenko, a Russian-American sculptor and Chadwick, a British sculptor. From Archipenko he received inspiration for developing artist/geometric approach and from Chadwick, a generation of interest in using a variety of media. Although Bhagat’s works are generally related to cubism, they show a curious mixture of geometrical construction and sentiment which makes his apparently abstract sculptures filled with concept and deep feeling. His geometry is inspired from the natural forms of plants, trees and flowers that achieve a transformation through his inner vision in an amazing variety of forms.
