Introduction
Khakaan (1965) Directed by Aspi Irani, it was a costume drama that weaves action and adventure with themes of destiny and loyalty. Featuring the wrestler-turned-actor Dara Singh and veteran theatre legend Prithviraj Kapoor, the film stood out for its unusual casting. Mumtaz played the female lead in a narrative shaped by the idea that human will is ultimately helpless before fate. The supporting cast included Uma Dutt, Ratnamala, and Master Bhagwan, adding depth to this folklore-inspired tale. In line with Aspi Irani's signature style, the story is rich in twists of destiny and dramatic coincidences, often drawn from Parsi legends.

As news arrives that Commander Rohinton (Uma Dutt) has triumphed in battle, the queen delivers a daughter. A wandering fakir then foretells that this girl will marry the man who will one day kill the king—none other than Rohinton's future son. Shocked, the king demands that Rohinton surrender his child once born. Rohinton agrees, but his wife flees into the jungle with their newborn. Meanwhile, the treacherous Vazir imprisons Rohinton.
Eighteen years later, the grown princess (Mumtaz) meets and falls in love with Khakaan (Dara Singh), a tribal prince and Rohinton's lost son. When the Vazir discovers their meetings, Khakaan is captured and sentenced to death. The princess rescues him, and together they escape, marry, and lead the tribal army to victory. Khakaan kills the king, fulfilling the prophecy, and peace is restored as he takes the throne.
The soundtrack, composed by N. Dutta, featured memorable songs such as Aap Ke Khayalon Men Khoye, Jadu Kar Gai Hai Nazar, Jo Baat Honi Hain, and Kiya Jo Ishq To Hum Ho Gaye Diwane, blending voices of Asha Bhosle, Kamal Barot, and Mohammed Rafi.

खाकान (1965) के निर्देशक अस्पी ईरानी थे। यह एक कॉस्ट्यूम ड्रामा फ़िल्म थी जिसमें एक्शन और रोमांच को भाग्य और वफ़ादारी के इर्द-गिर्द घूमते कथानक के साथ बखूबी पिरोया गया था। इस फ़िल्म में पहलवान से अभिनेता बने दारा सिंह और रंगमंच के दिग्गज सितारे पृथ्वीराज कपूर ने प्रमुख भूमिकाएँ निभाई थीं जिसके चलते यह फ़िल्म अपनी दिलचस्प कास्टिंग के कारण अलग नजर आती है। इस फ़िल्म में मुमताज़ ने प्रमुख स्त्री किरदार की भूमिका निभाई थी। कथा का मूल विचार यह था कि इंसानी इच्छाशक्ति अंततः किस्मत के सामने असहाय होती है। फ़िल्म में अन्य सहायक भूमिकाओं में उमा दत्त, रत्नमाला और मास्टर भगवान जैसे कलाकार काम कर रहे थे जिन्होंने इस लोककथा शैली की कहानी को अपने अभिनय से गहराई दी। अस्पी ईरानी की विशिष्ट फ़िल्म निर्माण शैली के अनुरूप इस कहानी में भी भाग्य पर आधारित मोड़ों और नाटकीय संयोगों की भरमार थी। उनके सिनेमा में यह किस्मत का खेल अक्सर पारसी लोककथाओं से प्रेरित होता है।
फ़िल्म की कहानी शिमान नामक एक राज्य में घटित होती है जहाँ का राजा युद्ध में हार रहा है और उसकी रानी प्रसव पीड़ा में है। पर जैसे ही खबर आती है कि सेनापति रोहिंटन (उमा दत्त) ने युद्ध जीत लिया है, रानी एक पुत्री को जन्म देती है। उसी समय एक साधू फ़कीर भविष्यवाणी करता है कि यह लड़की जिस व्यक्ति से विवाह करेगी वही एक दिन राजा की हत्या करेगा और वह इंसान कोई और नहीं बल्कि सेनापति रोहिंटन का पुत्र होगा। यह सुनकर स्तब्ध राजा सेनापति रोहिंटन से अपना बच्चा जन्म के बाद फ़ौरन उसे सौंप देने की माँग करता है। वफ़ादार रोहिंटन इसके लिए सहमत भी हो जाता है लेकिन उसकी पत्नी नवजात शिशु को लेकर जंगल में भाग जाती है। इसी बीच विश्वासघाती वज़ीर सेनापति रोहिंटन को बंदी बना लेता है।
इसके अठारह साल बाद बड़ी हो चुकी राजकुमारी (मुमताज़) की मुलाकात खोए हुए राजकुमार खाकान (दारा सिंह) से होती है और दोनों एक-दूसरे से प्रेम कर बैठते हैं। खाकान ही सेनापति रोहिंटन का खोया हुआ बेटा है जिसकी परवरिश जंगल में हुई है और वो अब एक आदिवासी राजकुमार है। जब वज़ीर को उनके इस संबंध का पता चलता है तो वह खाकान को बंदी बनवा लेता है और मृत्युदंड का आदेश देता है। लेकिन राजकुमारी अपने प्रेमी खाकान को बचाकर ले जाती है और दोनों विवाह कर लेते हैं। इसके बाद वे एक आदिवासी सेना का नेतृत्व करते हुए दुष्ट वज़ीर के खिलाफ़ युद्ध में विजय प्राप्त करते हैं। आखिर में खाकान राजा की हत्या कर भविष्यवाणी को पूर्ण करता है और अंततः सिंहासन पर बैठता है। राज्य में शांति और सुख-चैन की स्थापना होती है।
इस फ़िल्म के लिए संगीत एन. दत्ता ने तैयार किया था। इस फ़िल्म में आशा भोंसले, कमल बारोट और मोहम्मद रफ़ी जैसे गायकों के स्वरों में “आप के ख़यालों में खोए”, “जादू कर गई है नज़र”, “जो बात होनी है” और “किया जो इश्क़ तो हम हो गए दीवाने” जैसे यादगार गीत शामिल थे जिन्हें आज भी संगीत प्रेमी याद करते हैं।
