              Scene DescriptionPratidwandi is the first of Ray's Calcutta trilogy where the city in all its vibrancy and vulnerabilty becomes a formidable adversary to a young man with little means who is trying to make his way in life. The opening scene, depicted in negative of this still, shows the demise and funeral of protagonist Siddhartha Cowdhury's (Dhritiman Chatterjee) father.
