Introduction

Balram Shri Krishna (1968) Directed by Chandrakant, this mythological was a grand epic that vividly portrays the divine bond between the Yadava brothers Balram and Krishna. Featuring a stellar ensemble cast that includes Shahu Modak, Jayshree Gadkar, Dara Singh, Savitri, Prem Nath, Aruna Irani, Geetanjali, and Randhawa, the film brings to life a tapestry of cherished tales from Hindu mythology. Supporting roles are powerfully portrayed by cinematic veterans such as Nana Palsikar, Sulochana Chatterjee, Prithviraj Kapoor, Azad, and Gemini Ganesan, lending further gravitas to the narrative.
The story unfolds with Lord Krishna liberating Mathura from the clutches of the tyrant Kans. Prompted by Naradmuni, Krishna sets out to marry Princess Rukmini, even as rival kings angered by Kans's defeat plot retaliation. In a strategic move to safeguard their people, Krishna and Balram relocate their kingdom to the fortified city of Dwarka. As political and personal tensions rise, a rift emerges between the brothers over the marriage of their sister, Subhadra: while Balram champions Duryodhan, Krishna sides with Arjun, placing their familial loyalty at a crossroads.
The film's music, composed by the legendary C. Ramchandra with lyrics by Kavi Pradeep, comprises eight devotional tracks performed by voices such as Mahendra Kapoor, Asha Bhosle, and Kamal Barot. Released under the Saregama label, the soundtrack remains a highlight of the film's artistic offering.
Despite its rich content and an iconic cast, Balram Shri Krishna did not find major commercial success. Some critics suggest that while Dara Singh was a beloved figure, his mythological roles did not always align with the box-office trends of the time, contributing to the film's lukewarm reception.

बलराम श्रीकृष्ण (1968) के निर्देशक चंद्रकांत थे। यह भव्य पौराणिक फ़िल्म भगवान श्रीकृष्ण और उनके बड़े भाई बलराम, दोनों यादव भ्राताओं के मध्य दिव्य संबंध को जीवन्त तरीके से प्रस्तुत करती है। इस फ़िल्म में शाहू मोदक, जयश्री गडकरी, दारा सिंह, सावित्री, प्रेम नाथ, अरुणा ईरानी, गीतांजलि और रणधावा जैसे कलाकारों ने अभिनय किया था। यह फ़िल्म हिंदू पौराणिक महाकाव्यों में मिलनेवाली जनप्रिय कहानियों को सिनेमाई परदे पर साकार रूप देती है। फ़िल्म में अन्य सहायक भूमिकाएँ नाना पालसिकर, सुलोचना चटर्जी, पृथ्वीराज कपूर, आज़ाद और जैमिनी गणेशन जैसे दिग्गज कलाकारों ने निभाई थीं जिससे कहानी को और मज़बूती मिली।
कहानी की शुरुआत भगवान कृष्ण द्वारा अत्याचारी कंस के चंगुल से मथुरा नगरी को मुक्त कराने से होती है। इधर नारद मुनि की प्रेरणा से कृष्ण राजकुमारी रुक्मिणी से विवाह करने का निश्चय करते हैं, उधर कंस की हार से आहत दूसरे प्रतिद्वंदी राजा प्रतिशोध की योजना बनाने लगते हैं। अपने लोगों की सुरक्षा के लिए चिंतित कृष्ण और बलराम राज्य को मथुरा से दूर सुरक्षित द्वारका नगरी में लेकर जाते हैं। वहाँ राजनैतिक और व्यक्तिगत तनावों के बीच दोनों भाइयों में बहन सुभद्रा के विवाह को लेकर मतभेद उत्पन्न हो जाता है। एक ओर जहाँ बलराम दुर्योधन का पक्ष लेते हैं वहीं कृष्ण अर्जुन का साथ देते हैं। इससे परिवार के आपसी संबंध और भ्राता के प्रति निष्ठा एक कठिन मोड़ पर पहुँच जाते हैं।
फ़िल्म के लिए संगीत प्रसिद्ध संगीतकार सी. रामचंद्र ने तैयार किया था और इसके लिए गीतों के बोल कवि प्रदीप ने लिखे थे। इस फ़िल्म में आठ भक्ति गीत शामिल थे जिन्हें महेंद्र कपूर, आशा भोंसले और कमल बारोट जैसे गायकों ने गाया था। सारेगामा के लेबल पर जारी हुआ यह संगीत फ़िल्म की कलात्मक उपलब्धियों में विशेष रूप से उल्लेखनीय है।
हालाँकि इस फ़िल्म की विषयवस्तु और कलाकारों की टोली बेहद समृद्ध कही जा सकती है लेकिन बलराम श्रीकृष्ण को बड़ी व्यावसायिक कामयाबी नहीं मिली। कुछ समीक्षकों का मानना है कि दारा सिंह दर्शकों के प्रिय सितारे थे लेकिन उनकी निभाई कुछ पौराणिक भूमिकाएँ उस दौर के व्यावसायिक रुझानों से मेल नहीं खाती थीं जिसके चलते फ़िल्म को ठंडी प्रतिक्रिया ही हासिल हो पाती थी।
