Introduction
Ab Dilli Dur Nahin (1957), directed by Amar Kumar and written by Rajinder Singh Bedi and Muhafiz Hyder, was produced by Raj Kapoor. The film featured an ensemble cast, including Yakub, Anwar Hussain, Motilal, Jagdeep, and Amjad Khan in a minor role.
For its time, the film was quite experimental, breaking away from the conventions of typical Hindi mainstream cinema. While it wasn't a major hit, it still offered an engaging experience for its audience. The story of a young boy in 1951 who travels to Delhi to meet Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and seek justice for his father, wrongly sentenced to death, struck a chord with critics. The premise had the potential to be a mass entertainer, but the film ended up with modest success.
The film's music was composed by Dattaram, with lyrics by Shailendra and Hasrat Jaipuri. Among the songs, Mohammad Rafi's Chun Chun Karti Aayi Chidiya remains a classic even today. Other songs included Yeh Chaman Hamara Apna Hai by Asha Bhosle and Geeta Dutt, Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram Ramleela by Shamshad Begum, Geeta Dutt, and Asha Bhosle, and Lata Mangeshkar's solo Jiyo Lal Mere Tum Lakho Baras. Despite the quality of the music, none of the songs achieved widespread popularity.
