Introduction

Tere Mere Sapne is a soulful adaptation of renowned Scottish author A.J. Cronin's novel The Citadel that weaves together an engrossing narrative of idealism, moral dilemmas, and personal transformation. Dev Anand stars as Dr. Anand Kumar, a principled young doctor who initially dedicates his life to serving the poor in a rural village. Faced with overwhelming financial difficulties and societal pressures, Anand eventually relocates to Bombay, where he abandons his altruism in pursuit of wealth and fame. His focus shifts away from helping the underprivileged to serving the city's elite. Anand ultimately realises the emptiness of his material success and redeems himself by donating blood to save the life of an actress during childbirth. The film critiques the shift from faithful service to commercial aspirations in professions such as medicine and the disparity in medical care for the rich and poor, highlighting the moral compromises that often come with success. Thus the film tells the story of its protagonist's transition from righteousness to disillusionment and ultimately, redemption.

प्रसिद्ध स्कॉटिश लेखक ए.जे. क्रोनिन के उपन्यास 'दि सिटाडेल' पर आधारित नवकेतन फ़िल्म की तेरे मेरे सपने की भावनाओं से भरी कहानी का दिलचस्प ताना-बाना आदर्शवाद, नैतिक दुविधाओं में घिरे इंसान और मानवीय जीवन के उद्देश्य जैसी बातों को उठाता है। फ़िल्म में डॉक्टर आनंद कुमार की शीर्ष भूमिका में देव आनंद हैं। आनंद एक सिद्धांतवादी युवा डॉक्टर है जो कहानी की शुरुआत में एक गाँव में रहकर गरीबों की सेवा करता है। लेकिन भारी वित्तीय कठिनाइयों और सामाजिक दबावों के चलते अंततः आनंद मुम्बई जाने का फ़ैसला करता है। मुम्बई उसे बदल देती है और वो पैसे और प्रसिद्धि की चाह में डॉक्टरी के पेशे से जुड़ा परोपकार त्याग देता हैं। गरीबों की मदद करने की जगह अब आनंद शहर के रईसों और पहुँचवालों की दुनिया के पीछे भाग रहा है। पर आखिर में आनंद को पैसे की इस अन्धी दौड़ के पीछे के खोखलेपन का एहसास होता है और एक अभिनेत्री की संतान के जन्म के समय जान बचाने के लिए अपना खून देकर वो इस अपराधबोध से मुक्ति पाता है। तेरे मेरे सपने डॉक्टरी जैसे पेशे में सेवा के बदले पैसा कमाने से जुड़ी आकांक्षाओं के हावी होने और रईसों की तुलना में किसी गरीब के लिए उपलब्ध चिकित्सा सेवाओं की गहरी होती खाई जैसे सवाल उठाती है। नैतिक इंसान भी अक्सर भौतिक सफलता की चाहत में अपने आदर्शों की बलि चढ़ा देता है। यह फ़िल्म अपने नायक की आदर्शवादिता, उससे मोहभंग और अंततः उसकी मुक्ति के सफ़र को बखूबी बयाँ करती है।
