Introduction

Rajkumar (1964) Directed by K. Shankar and starring Prithviraj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, Sadhana, Pran, and Om Prakash, Rajkumar was a major box office success.
The story revolves around a Maharaja (Prithviraj Kapoor) eagerly awaiting the return of his foreign-educated son, Bhanupratap (Shammi Kapoor), who is expected to inherit the throne. However, the Maharaja is shocked and disappointed when his son behaves more like a carefree clown than a future ruler. Disillusioned, he decides to continue ruling himself.
Bhanupratap, along with his friend Kapil (Rajendranath), goes undercover among the people to uncover any conspiracies against the crown. Meanwhile, Narpat (Pran), the brother of Bhanupratap's stepmother, murders the tribal king and frames Bhanupratap for the crime. The tribal princess, Sangeeta (Sadhana), vows revenge for her father's death. Bhanupratap escapes the palace disguised as Bhagatram and unintentionally falls in love with Sangeeta, who is unaware of his true identity.
Eventually, Bhanupratap secures evidence proving his innocence, but before he can present it, Narpat imprisons the Maharaja and urges Sangeeta to kill Bhanupratap, revealing his true identity. Torn between love and duty, Sangeeta prepares to take her revenge. However, just in time, Bhanupratap's allies arrive and rescue the Maharaja. A final battle ensues, and Bhanupratap defeats Narpat and hands him over to Sangeeta, who avenges her father's death. The film ends with Bhanupratap and Sangeeta's marriage.
The film's music by Shankar–Jaikishan, with lyrics by Hasrat Jaipuri and Shailendra, was a major highlight. Memorable songs include Janewale, Zara Hoshiyar; Tumne Kisi Ki Jaan Ko Jaate Hue Dekha Hai; Is Rang Badalti Duniya Mein; Tumne Pukara Aur Hum Chale Aaye; Dilruba Dil Pe Tu Yeh Sitam Kiye Ja; and the lively duet Nach Re Man Badkamma, Thumak Thumak Badkamma. Among them, Aaja Aayi Bahar by Lata Mangeshkar stood out as the film's musical centerpiece and remains beloved to this day.

राजकुमार (1964) के निर्देशक दक्षिण भारतीय भाषाओं के चर्चित फ़िल्मकार के. शंकर थे। इस फ़िल्म में पृथ्वीराज कपूर, शम्मी कपूर, साधना, प्राण और ओम प्रकाश मुख्य भूमिकाएँ निभा रहे थे। यह फ़िल्म टिकट खिड़की पर बड़ी कामयाब साबित हुई।
इस फ़िल्म की कहानी एक ऐसे महाराजा (पृथ्वीराज कपूर) के साथ आगे बढ़ती है जो विदेश में पढ़-लिखकर वापस देश लौट रहे अपने पुत्र भानुप्रताप (शम्मी कपूर) की बेसब्री से प्रतीक्षा कर रहा है। उसे उम्मीद है कि वापस लौटकर उसका सयाना बेटा उसके राज्य की बागडोर संभालेगा और वह शांति से संन्यास ले लेगा। लेकिन देश लौटने के बाद बेटे भानुप्रताप का लापरवाह और मसखरे जैसा व्यवहार देख महाराजा को गहरा आघात लगता है और वह निराश होकर खुद ही शासन जारी रखने का निर्णय लेते हैं।
भानुप्रताप अपने मित्र कपिल (राजेन्द्र नाथ) के साथ आम लोगों के बीच भेस बदलकर घूमता है और यह जानने की कोशिश करता है कि राज्य के विरुद्ध कोई साजिश तो नहीं चल रही? इसी बीच उसकी सौतेली माँ का भाई नरपत (प्राण) एक आदिवासी राजा की हत्या कर देता है और हत्या का झूठा इल्ज़ाम भानुप्रताप पर लगा देता है। आदिवासी राजकुमारी संगीता (साधना) अपने पिता की हत्या का बदला लेने की कसम खाती है। ऐसी मुश्किल परिस्थिति में भानुप्रताप भगतराम का भेस धरकर महल से भाग निकलता है और अनजाने में उसी आदिवासी राजकुमारी संगीता से प्रेम कर बैठता है जिसने उसके प्राण लेने की कसम खाई है। संगीता भानुप्रताप की असल पहचान से अनजान है।
आख़िरकार भानुप्रताप को अपनी बेगुनाही का सबूत तो मिल जाता है लेकिन इससे पहले कि वह उन्हें सबके सामने पेश कर पाए, नरपत महाराजा को बंदी बना लेता है। वह संगीता के सामने भानुप्रताप की असली पहचान उजागर करते हुए उससे उसे मारने को कहता है। संगीता प्रेम और कर्तव्य के दोराहे पर खड़ी है। उलझन में वह अपना बदला लेने आगे बढ़ती है लेकिन ऐन वक़्त पर भानुप्रताप के साथी आकर महाराजा को बचा लेते हैं। इसके बाद अन्तिम युद्ध होता है जिसमें भानुप्रताप नरपत को हराकर उसे संगीता के हवाले कर देता है जो अपने पिता की हत्या का बदला पूरा करती है। फ़िल्म के अन्त में भानुप्रताप और संगीता का विवाह हो जाता है।
इस फ़िल्म के लिए संगीत शंकर-जयकिशन ने तैयार किया था और गीतों के बोल हसरत जयपुरी व शैलेंद्र ने लिखे थे। संगीत इस फ़िल्म का एक विशेष आकर्षण रहा। इस फ़िल्म के यादगार गीतों में “जानेवाले ज़रा होशियार”, “तुमने किसी की जान को जाते हुए देखा है”, “इस रंग बदलती दुनिया में”, “तुमने पुकारा और हम चले आए”, “दिलरुबा दिल पे तू ये सितम किए जा” और चुलबुला युगल गीत “नाच रे मन बडकम्मा, ठुमक ठुमक बडकम्मा” शामिल हैं। इन सभी लोकप्रिय गीतों में लता मंगेशकर का गाया “आ जा आई बहार” फ़िल्म का संगीतमय शिखर बनकर उभरा और यह गाना आज भी श्रोताओं के बीच बेहद लोकप्रिय है।
