Introduction

Qurbani, directed by and starring Feroz Khan, is an action-packed thriller that explores themes of love, loyalty, and sacrifice against a backdrop of crime and high-stakes drama. The film follows the intertwined fates of Rajesh (Feroz Khan), a suave thief, and Amar (Vinod Khanna), a tough cop, both of whom fall for the enigmatic Sheela (Zeenat Aman). Their camaraderie and rivalry lead to a gripping narrative filled with dramatic turns, culminating in a powerful sacrifice that elevates the film's emotional resonance.

Qurbani was notable for introducing disco music to India with the iconic song "Aap Jaisa Koi", performed by Pakistani singer Nazia Hassan. The song became a nationwide sensation, making disco an integral part of India's music scene in the 1980s. The film also opens on a poignant note-with a montage of archival photographs of Sanjay Gandhi's funeral, just days after his tragic death. In a voiceover, Feroz Khan dedicates his loyalty and the film to the "sleeping prince" Sanjay Gandhi, underscoring the socio-political reverberations that framed its release. Qurbani's blend of high-octane action, memorable music, and emotional depth cemented it as one of the most culturally impactful films of its era.
