फूल (1945) प्रसिद्ध फ़िल्मकार के. आसिफ़ की निर्देशक की भूमिका में पहली फ़िल्म थी। वही के. आसिफ़ जिन्होंने आगे चलकर मुगल-ए-आज़म (1960) जैसी कालजयी फ़िल्म का निर्माण किया। सन् 1945 में रिलीज़ हुई यह फ़िल्म फूल व्यावसायिक रूप से कामयाब रही और उस वर्ष की चौथी सबसे अधिक कमाई करने वाली भारतीय फ़िल्म बनी।
यह एक बड़े बजट की ड्रामा फ़िल्म थी जिसकी पटकथा कमाल अमरोही ने लिखी थी। इस फ़िल्म का कथानक एक पारम्परिक किस्म के मुस्लिम संयुक्त परिवार से जुड़ी कहानी है। कथा के केंद्र में सफ़दर नामक एक नेकदिल व्यक्ति का किरदार है जिसे दुष्ट भाभी की चालों के चलते अपनी जायज़ विरासत से वंचित कर दिया जाता है। इस निजी क्षति को झेलते हुए भी सफ़दर अपने दिवंगत पिता से किए गए वादे को भूलता नहीं है। पिता से किया वो वादा है कि वो मस्जिद के निर्माण को पूरा करवायेगा।
फ़िल्म में पृथ्वीराज कपूर, सुरैय्या, वीणा, मज़हर ख़ान, सितारा देवी, दुर्गा खोटे, याकूब, दीक्षित, आगा, वस्ती, जिल्लूबाई, माजिद और अशरफ ख़ान जैसे प्रतिष्ठित कलाकारों ने प्रमुख भूमकाएँ निभाई थीं। सुरैय्या फ़िल्म में केंद्रीय स्त्री चरित्र की भूमिका में थीं और अपने शानदार अभिनय से उन्होंने उस दौर की एक प्रमुख अभिनेत्री के रूप में अपनी पहचान को स्थापित किया।
