Padosan is a lighthearted comedy directed by Jyoti Swaroop that is centred around Bhola (Sunil Dutt), a naive village simpleton who falls in love with his beautiful neighbour Bindu (Saira Banu). पड़ोसन एक हल्की-फ़ुल्की कॉमेडी फ़िल्म है जिसके निर्देशक थे ज्योति स्वरूप। गाँव से आया नादान भोला-भाला सा लड़का भोला (सुनील दत्त) अपने पड़ोस में रहनेवाली खूबसूरत लड़की बिंदु (सायरा बानो) से प्यार करने लगता है। बिंदु का दिल जीतने के लिए भोला अपने दोस्त विद्यापति (किशोर कुमार) से मदद माँगता है। विद्यापति एक शरारती स्वभाव का संगीतज्ञ है जो बिंदु का मन मोहने के लिए एक चालाकी भरी योजना बनाता है। योजना कुछ ऐसी है कि इधर घर में विद्यापति पीछे से प्यारभरा गीत गाएगा और उधर भोला खिड़की पर उसी गाने पर अपने होंठ हिलायेगा (लिप-सिंक) जिससे ऐसा लगे कि गाना भोला खुद गा रहा है। फिल्म का मज़ेदार हास्य भोला की मासूमियत और विद्यापति की चालाकी के बीच मौजूद विलोम में निहित है, जिसका चरम हम लोकप्रिय हंगामाखेज़ गीत “मेरे सामने वाली खिड़की में” के यादगार हास्य प्रसंगों में देख पाते हैं। पड़ोसन भारतीय सिनेमा की हास्य फ़िल्मों की परम्परा में एक महत्वपूर्ण सांस्कृतिक मानक बन गई, जिसे अक्सर इसकी बेदाग़ कॉमिक टाइमिंग और अभिनय के लिए याद किया जाता है। उसमें भी सबसे ख़ास विद्यापति की भूमिका में किशोर कुमार की दिलफ़रेब अदाकारी। ख़ामोशी से यह फ़िल्म गाँवों में रहनेवाले भारत और शहरी हिन्दुस्तान के बीच मौजूद फांक की ओर भी इशारा कर देती है। यहाँ नायक...
