Scene Description Amulya (Soumitra Chatterjee) has completed his college education in the city and come back to his native village. His mother has found him a suitress- an amateur girl with a multitude of talents valued in the erstwhile ideal wives of the rich in rural Bengal. Amulya, unlike his parochial kinsman, does not consider that essential or enough for marriage. Ray makes the city boy appear extravagant and farcical, ogling through his silver rimmed glasses, keeping a gold chain pocket-watch and walking clumsily in the mud with a long handled umbrella. His room boasts of a collection of books, a large gramophone and framed picture of Napolean. (1/7)
