Pikoo (Pikoor Diary), 1980, India, Bengali
Scene Description Pikoo is a 23-minute short made for French television, adapted by Ray from his own short story Pikoor Diary. While the story is told from the lens of the six-year-old boy who doesn't understand the messy world around him, the film tells the story from the perspective of both the child and the mother. Pikoo stands at the threshold of innocence, unable to comprehend the complexities of the adult world. His mother, Seema is an ensconced housewife whose motherhood is at conflict with her desires as a woman. The still shows Pikoo's father Ranjan getting ready to leave for work as he casually reveals his discovery of Seema's affair, in the presence of the washerman. (1/17)
