Scene Description Karuna left Amitabha for what he was or precisely for what he lacked - strength of character. Amitabha feels Karuna should leave Bimal not for anything he might have done but for what he is - or at least, how Amitabha thinks he is. The long-established British influence has rubbed off on Bimal- explicit in his baggy shorts, tobacco pipe and his fondness for whisky. His contempt for Bengali films and his assertion that Bengali youth lack moral fibre, detach him even more. He is effusive, garrulous and domineering, but cannot be suspected of any kind of deviousness(5/17)
