Namrita Bachchan pursued her education in Switzerland and the UK before earning a BFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design (1999). She later completed an AAS in Graphic Design at Parsons School of Design, New York (2003), and a Botanical Drawing course at the Ruskin School of Art, Oxford (2018). Based in India since 2005, she has worked as a freelance graphic designer and photographer while publishing two poetry books, Deliverance (2007) and The House of Wine (2010). Her work has been showcased in Mumbai, Delhi, London, and featured at Tate Lates Contemporary Surrealist Photography (2020).
Her series The Shortest Distance Between Two People Is Love, a collection of eight photographs, explores themes of love, isolation, and connection in today’s world. Although not originally conceived as a series, the images were edited to form a cohesive narrative that resonates with the emotional distance brought by global isolation. Set in locations like Chhath Puja, the Gateway of India, and the Yamuna River near Delhi, the photographs capture fleeting, unposed moments of intimacy between couples.
Focusing on emotional depth through composition and body language, the series examines the shifting moods of romantic connection—from unity to estrangement—and back. It highlights the realm of communion that exists beyond the physical, evoking the fragility and transcendence of love during uncertain times. The series invites viewers to reflect on the intangible yet powerful bonds that persist even amidst separation.
