Introduction
Kal Aaj Aur Kal (1971), produced by Raj Kapoor and directed by his son Randhir Kapoor, is notable for featuring three generations of the Kapoor family as in Prithviraj Kapoor, Raj Kapoor, and Randhir Kapoor alongside Babita. The film marked the final screen appearance of Prithviraj Kapoor, who passed away a year after its release, and was the last collaboration between Raj Kapoor and the legendary music duo Shankar–Jaikishan. Supporting roles were played by Achala Sachdev, David, Iftekhar, and Roopesh Kumar
Following the commercial failure of Mera Naam Joker, this film served as a partial comeback for Raj Kapoor, though it wasn't a major box office success. Still, it recouped some of his previous losses.
The title, Kal Aaj Aur Kal (Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow), is symbolic of the generational and ideological conflict portrayed in the film. Later, Diwan falls gravely ill and expresses his only unfulfilled wish to see his grandson married. Rajesh agrees to marry Laxmi for his grandfather's happiness, while Mona supports his decision. At the wedding, however, Diwan surprises everyone by revealing that the bride is actually Mona. He explains that Rajesh's willingness to sacrifice proved his love, and he, in turn, chose to honor that love.
The film concludes with Rajesh scattering his grandfather's ashes, as Ram embraces grandfatherhood with the birth of Rajesh's son. Shankar–Jaikishan's music included three Kishore Kumar hits:Bhanware Ki Gunjan,Aap Yahan Aaye Kisliye, and Tik Tik Tik Chalti Jaye Ghadi. Though Kisi Ke Dil Ko Sanam was recorded, it was not included in the final film, playback singer Sharda was still credited.

पिता और पुत्र के बीच में फंसे राम का मन विचलित है। जब दीवान साहब और राजेश दोनों यह धमकी देते हैं कि अगर उनकी इच्छा पूरी नहीं हुई तो वे घर छोड़ देंगे, राम खुद ही घर छोड़ देता है। उसके इस कदम से उन दोनों को अपने व्यवहार पर विचार करने के लिए मजबूर होना पड़ता है। बाद में दीवान बहादुर जब गंभीर रूप से बीमार हो जाते हैं तो अपनी एकमात्र अधूरी इच्छा जताते हैं। उनकी अन्तिम इच्छा है अपने पोते की शादी होते देखना। आखिर राजेश अपने दादा की खुशी के लिए लक्ष्मी से शादी करने को तैयार हो जाता है। यहाँ तक कि मोना भी उसके इस फैसले के साथ खड़ी होती है। मगर ऐन शादी के दिन दीवान बहादुर सबको चौंकाते हुए खुलासा करते हैं कि असली दुल्हन तो वास्तव में मोना है। वे यह भी कहते हैं कि राजेश का दूसरे की खुशी के लिए अपनी इच्छाओं का त्याग करने का भाव उसके प्रेम के पवित्र होने को साबित करता है। इसी कारण उन्होंने उस प्रेम का सम्मान करना चुना।
फ़िल्म के आखिर में राजेश द्वारा अपने दादा की अस्थियाँ विसर्जित करने का दृश्य है। इधर राजेश के बेटे के जन्म के साथ राम दादाजी की भूमिका में आ जाता है।। शंकर-जयकिशन के दिए संगीत में इस फ़िल्म के लिए किशोर कुमार ने तीन लोकप्रिय गीत गाए थे, "भंवरे की गुंजन", "आप यहाँ आए किसलिए" और "टिक टिक टिक चलती जाए घड़ी"। इसके अलावा एक और गीत "किसी के दिल को सनम" रिकॉर्ड तो किया गया था लेकिन किसी कारणवश अन्तिम फ़िल्म में वह शामिल नहीं हो पाया। फिर भी पार्श्वगायिका शारदा का नाम फ़िल्म की क्रेडिट सूची में शामिल किया गया।
