Introduction

Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai (1961), written, produced, and directed by Nasir Hussain, was a musical comedy that became a mega box office hit, thanks to its light-hearted, feel-good romantic comedy genre. This was Hussain's first film as a producer, featuring Dev Anand and his frequent collaborator Asha Parekh in the lead roles. Pran played the antagonist, while Rajendranath appeared in a supporting role.
Interestingly, Nasir Hussain had initially offered the film to Shammi Kapoor, but he declined the role. The film is known for its amusing comic elements, including rib-tickling impersonations and mistaken identities, as the characters played by Anand and Parekh fall in love after a series of misadventures. The chaos and misunderstandings, particularly involving Rajendranath and Parekh, remain memorable moments for many film aficionados.
A few years later, Hussain would revisit some of the themes and elements from Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai in his later film Teesri Manzil (1966). This film also marked the only time Hussain worked with composers Shankar Jaikishan as music directors and cast Dev Anand in a leading role.
The film's soundtrack, with playback singing by Mohammed Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar, featured songs that became timeless classics. Jiya O Jiya and Teri Zulfon Se Judai (both sung by Rafi) were major hits, as was Sau Saal Pehle, sung by both Rafi and Lata. The latter was later adapted into the Tamil film Vallavanukku Vallavan as Manam Ennum.
Lata Mangeshkar's playful and energetic Tum Jaise Bigade Babu Se was a rarity in her repertoire, as she usually left such jaunty numbers to her sister Asha, who was known for her natural flair with such tunes. However, Lata's rendition of Jiya o Jiya... kuch bol do… while slightly less popular than Rafi's, proved her remarkable versatility and established her as one of the most accomplished singers of her time.

दिलचस्प बात है कि नासिर हुसैन ने पहले इस फ़िल्म का प्रस्ताव नायक शम्मी कपूर को दिया था, लेकिन उन्होंने यह भूमिका करने से मना कर दिया। यह फ़िल्म अपने पेटपकड़ हँसाऊ हास्य प्रसंगों के लिए याद की जाती है, जिसमें पहचान में गफ़लत और भूमिकाओं की अदलाबदली से उपजे कई मज़ेदार प्रसंग शामिल हैं। देव आनंद और आशा पारेख के किरदार ऐसी ही कई दिलचस्प घटनाओं के सिलसिले से गुज़रते हैं और प्यार में पड़ जाते हैं। गलतफ़हमियों और गड़बड़झाले से भरे फ़िल्म के कई हास्य दृश्य, ख़ासकर अभिनेता राजेंद्र नाथ और आशा पारेख के बीच के प्रसंग फ़िल्म के प्रशंसकों को आज भी गुदगुदाते हैं।
कुछ साल बाद नासिर हुसैन ने अपनी कामयाब फ़िल्म तीसरी मंज़िल (1966) में जब प्यार किसी से होता है के कुछ तत्वों और प्रसंगों को फिर से दोहराया। यह फ़िल्म देव आनंद के साथ उनकी एकमात्र फ़िल्म रही और नासिर हुसैन ने संगीतकार जोड़ी शंकर-जयकिशन के साथ भी सिर्फ़ इसी फ़िल्म में काम किया है। मोहम्मद रफ़ी और लता मंगेशकर ने इस फ़िल्म के गीतों को आवाज़ दी थी। फ़िल्म के कई गाने कालजयी यादगार बन गए। रफ़ी का गाया “जिया ओ जिया” और “तेरी ज़ुल्फों से जुदाई” फ़ौरन सफलता की पायदान के शिखर पर पहुँच गए और उनका और लता मंगेशकर का साथ गाया “सौ साल पहले” भी खूब पसन्द किया गया। बाद में इस गीत का तमिल संस्करण फ़िल्म वल्लवनुक्कु वल्लवन में “मनम एन्नुम” नाम से इस्तेमाल किया गया।
