Introduction

Insaf Ka Mandir (1969) Directed by B.R. Ishara, this was a courtroom drama that centred around themes of justice and morality. The film features a stellar cast, including Sanjeev Kumar, Snehlata, Nadira, Prithviraj Kapoor, Bela Bose, Aruna Irani, Tarun Bose, and Laxmi Chhaya.
The story follows Sunil (Sanjeev Kumar), a lawyer who unexpectedly discovers that his long-lost mother is still alive. The key to finding her lies with Mrs. Jain (Nadira), a woman with a mysterious past. As Sunil delves deeper, he learns that Mrs. Jain was previously involved in a murder case, prompting him to reopen the trial in search of the truth.
A peculiar subplot involves a man who wanders the streets with half his face blackened—his identity and significance left unexplained for much of the film. Sunil's investigation is riddled with implausible coincidences and narrative shortcuts, such as the sudden appearance of a blackmailer's photograph at a police station and conveniently timed letters.
Despite these narrative flaws, Sanjeev Kumar's performance is widely praised and remains one of the film's most compelling aspects. Prithviraj Kapoor delivers a powerful portrayal as the judge overseeing Mrs. Jain's trial, while Nadira brings complexity to her role, skilfully navigating a morally ambiguous character rather than a clear-cut antagonist.
The film's music, composed by Sapan Jagmohan, is another standout element. Songs like Pyaare Aaja Chori Chori, filmed on Laxmi Chhaya dancing at the New Star Hotel, became instant chartbusters and were replayed frequently by fans. The soundtrack features celebrated voices such as Asha Bhosle, Mohammed Rafi, Suman Kalyanpur, and Mukesh, contributing to the film's lasting musical appeal.

इंसाफ का मंदिर (1969) के निर्देशक बी.आर. इशारा थे। यह फ़िल्म एक कोर्टरूम ड्रामा थी जिसमें न्याय और नैतिकता से जुड़े विषयों को उठाया गया था। इस फ़िल्म में संजीव कुमार, स्नेहलता, नादिरा, पृथ्वीराज कपूर, बेला बोस, अरुणा ईरानी, तरुण बोस और लक्ष्मी छाया जैसे शानदार अभिनेता भूमिकाएँ निभा रहे थे।
फ़िल्म की कहानी सुनील (संजीव कुमार) नामक एक वकील के इर्द-गिर्द घूमती है। सुनील को एक दिन अचानक पता चलता है कि उसकी बिछड़ी हुई माँ अब भी जीवित है। लेकिन उन्हें ढूँढने की चाबी एक रहस्यमयी स्त्री मिसेज जैन (नादिरा) के पास है। जैसे-जैसे सुनील इस गुत्थी की गहराई में जाता है उसे मालूम होता है कि मिसेज जैन पहले एक हत्या के मामले में फँस चुकी हैं। ऐसे में वह सच का पता लगाने के लिए उस पुराने मुकदमे को दोबारा खोलने का निर्णय लेता है।
कहानी में एक अजीब-सा उपकथानक भी है जिसमें एक आदमी अपने आधे चेहरे को काला किए हुए सड़कों पर भटकता रहता है। उसकी पहचान और मुख्य कहानी से उसका संबंध फ़िल्म के अधिकांश हिस्से में रहस्य बना रहता है। सुनील द्वारा की जानेवाली जाँच में भी कई अविश्वसनीय संयोग और शॉर्टकट भरे हुए हैं जैसे पुलिस स्टेशन पर अचानक ब्लैकमेलर की तस्वीर का मिल जाना या चिट्ठी का एकदम ठीक समय पर पहुँचना।
इन कमज़ोरियों के बावजूद फ़िल्म में संजीव कुमार के अभिनय को व्यापक सराहना मिली और वह फ़िल्म का सबसे प्रभावशाली पहलू बनकर उभरा। पृथ्वीराज कपूर ने मिसेज जैन के मुकदमे में जज की भूमिका अदा करते हुए दमदार प्रदर्शन किया वहीं नादिरा ने अपने किरदार को पूरी बारीकी से निभाते हुए उसे एक सीधी-सादी खलनायिका के बजाए एक नैतिक रूप से उलझे हुए चरित्र की तरह प्रस्तुत किया।
इस फ़िल्म के लिए संगीत सपन जगमोहन ने तैयार किया था और वह फ़िल्म की ख़ासियत रहा। “प्यारे आजा चोरी चोरी” जैसा गीत भी इस फ़िल्म में था जिसमें 'न्यू स्टार होटल' में लक्ष्मी छाया नृत्य कर रही थीं। यह गीत फ़ौरन ही हिट हो गया और दर्शकों द्वारा बार-बार सुना गया। इस फ़िल्म के गानों के लिए आशा भोंसले, मोहम्मद रफ़ी, सुमन कल्याणपुर और मुकेश जैसे उस दौर के बड़े गायकों ने अपनी आवाज़ें दी थीं और इस फ़िल्म का संगीत लंबे समय तक यादगार बना रहा।
