Film TitleJoi Baba Felunath (The Elephant God), 1979, India, Bengali
Scene DescriptionFeluda is offered a bribe to stop investigating the case as Umanath sold the Ganesha to Maganlal on his own volition, or so the latter claims. When the detective refutes the claim of Maganlal's possession and takes a step forward asking Maganlal to show the statuette, a gunshot wheezes past him, confirming that Maganlal has gunners aimed at the retinue. In the following sequence, as pictured, Maganlal makes an elaborate display of suggestive violence diluted with the element of comical farce. A geriatric knife thrower, kept as circus pet, arrives with a bundle of knifes and a wooden backdrop. The weak-nerved Lalmohan is threatened to stand on target while the wheezing old performer throws one knife after other around the man's frame. At the end of the theatrical warning exercise, Lalmohan collapses in an unconscious fit. (13/29)
