Film TitleJoi Baba Felunath (The Elephant God), 1979, India, Bengali
Scene DescriptionThe suggested godman in the title derives the name from the piscine saint, Mochhli-baba who allegedly swam a hundred and sixty kilometres on the holy Ganga, from Allahabad to Banaras. With a small retinue of singers and musicians, he draws crowds including leading rich citizens to his prayer meetings at the ghat. Feluda observes with his binoculars, a rather hippy tattoo of an airplane on the godman's arm which further tickles his suspicions, if his sermon on numbers weren't fishy enough. (6/29)
