Introduction

Do Raaste, directed by Raj Khosla, is a deeply moving family drama that explores deep-seated Indian sensibilities and familial responsibilities. The film, based on Marathi author Chandrakant Kakodkar's novel titled Nilambari, depicts Nabendu (Balraj Sahni) as a dutiful son tasked with caring for his step-siblings after his father's deathbed vow. The narrative centres on Nabendu's struggle to maintain family unity amid growing tensions, particularly when his stepbrother, played by Prem Chopra, returns from abroad and marries a woman of his choice, defying traditional norms.

The film touches upon key themes such as the sanctity of the joint family, the paramount respect for elders, and the moral duty to uphold familial obligations. These themes resonate with the Indian psyche, emphasising the importance of relationships that transcend mere blood ties.

Do Raaste is notable for its memorable soundtrack composed by Lakshmikant-Pyarelal with lyrics penned by Anand Bakshi. The film features some of Hindi cinema's most enduring hits, including Bindiya Chamkegi, Yeh Reshmi Zulfein, and Chhup Gaye Saare Nazare. Kishore Kumar, who would later become the emblematic voice of Rajesh Khanna, sang only one song for the actor in this film, with Mohammed Rafi performing the other key tracks.

फ़िल्म संयुक्त परिवार की पवित्रता, बड़ों का सम्मान और परिवार की ज़िम्मेदारियों को सबसे ऊपर रखने जैसे नैतिक मूल्यों को दिखाती है। ये मूल्य भारतीय जनमानस के मन को भले लगते हैं, जहाँ रिश्तों की डोर सिर्फ़ रक्त संबंधों तक सीमित नहीं, उससे कहीं आगे जाती है।

दो रास्ते में संगीत दिया है लक्ष्मीकांत-प्यारेलाल की सदाबहार जोड़ी ने और इसके गीत लिखे हैं आनंद बक्शी ने। इस फ़िल्म ने हिन्दी सिनेमा को उसके कुछ सबसे बेहतरीन और सफलतम गाने दिये, जिनमें 'बिंदिया चमकेगी', 'ये रेशमी ज़ुल्फें' और 'छुप गए सारे नज़ारे' जैसे गीत शामिल हैं। आगे चलकर राजेश खन्ना की पहचान बन गए किशोर कुमार ने इस फ़िल्म में उनके लिए केवल एक गाना गाया था, जबकि दूसरे प्रमुख गाने मोहम्मद रफ़ी ने गाए थे।
