Introduction

Dharam Karam (1975) A drama film produced by the legendary Raj Kapoor and directed by his son Randhir Kapoor, who also starred in the film alongside his father. The film featured an ensemble cast including Rekha, Premnath, and Dara Singh, with notable supporting performances by Pinchoo Kapoor, Narendra Nath, Urmila Bhatt, Alka, Master Satyajeet, Baby Pinky, and Master Sailesh.
Set against the backdrop of moral dilemmas and identity swaps, the story follows Shankar (played by Premnath), a hardened criminal who longs to leave behind a life of crime. Fearing his son will follow in his footsteps, he secretly switches his newborn with the child of Ashok (Raj Kapoor), a celebrated stage performer. This switch sets the stage for a dramatic narrative exploring fate, upbringing, and personal choices.
Despite its star-studded cast, strong performances, and high production values, Dharam Karam underperformed at the box office and was classified as "Below Average" commercially. However, over the years, it has gained appreciation for its emotional depth and musical richness.
The film's music was composed by the legendary R.D. Burman, with lyrics penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri. The soundtrack includes the iconic and soulful song Ek Din Bik Jayega, which was featured four times throughout the film in different renditions by Kishore Kumar, Mukesh, and Sushma Shrestha. Majrooh Sultanpuri received a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Lyricist, while Mukesh earned a nomination for Best Male Playback Singer for his version of the same song.
Another standout track, Tere Humsafar Geet Hain Tere, sung by Asha Bhosle, Mukesh, and Kishore Kumar, was also widely popular with audiences and contributed to the film's lasting musical legacy.

धरम करम (1975) एक ड्रामा फ़िल्म थी जिसके निर्माता दिग्गज अभिनेता और शोमैन राज कपूर थे तथा इसका निर्देशन उनके बेटे रणधीर कपूर ने किया था। फ़िल्म की दोनों शीर्षक भूमिकाओं में भी यही बाप-बेटे की जोड़ी थी। इनके साथ फ़िल्म में रेखा, प्रेमनाथ और दारा सिंह जैसे प्रमुख कलाकारों के साथ पिंचू कपूर, नरेंद्र नाथ, उर्मिला भट्ट, अलका, मास्टर सत्यजीत, बेबी पिंकी और मास्टर शैलेश जैसे सहायक अभिनेता काम कर रहे थे।
फ़िल्म की कहानी नैतिक दुविधाओं में उलझे ऐसे किरदारों के बारे में है जिनकी पहचान की अदला-बदली हो जाती है। शंकर (प्रेमनाथ) एक कठोर अपराधी है जो किसी भी तरह से अपराध की जिन्दगी से पीछा छुड़ाना चाहता है। उसे डर है कि कहीं उसका बेटा भी उसकी देखादेखी अपराध के रास्ते पर न चल पड़े। इसलिए एक दिन वह चुपके से अपने नवजात बेटे को एक मशहूर मंचीय कलाकार अशोक (राज कपूर) के बच्चे से बदल देता है। नवजात बच्चों की यही अदला-बदली इस नाटकीय कथा की नींव में है जिसमें भाग्य, परवरिश और चयन की आज़ादी जैसे मुद्दों की पड़ताल की गई है।
दिग्गज कलाकारों, दमदार अभिनय और उच्च गुणवत्ता के निर्माण के बावजूद धरम करम टिकट खिड़की पर वैसी कामयाबी हासिल नहीं कर पाई जैसा उससे उम्मीद थी। इसे व्यावसायिक स्तर पर सामान्य से कमतर माना गया। हालाँकि बीतने समय के साथ इसे भावप्रवण जज़्बातों और संगीतमय प्रस्तुति के लिए सराहना मिली।
इस फ़िल्म के लिए संगीत महान संगीतकार राहुल देव बर्मन ने तैयार किया था और इसके गीत मजरूह सुल्तानपुरी ने लिखे थे। इस फ़िल्म में एक मशहूर और भावों से भरा गीत "इक दिन बिक जाएगा" भी शामिल था जिसे फ़िल्म में चार बार, अलग-अलग आवाज़ों में किशोर कुमार, मुकेश और सुषमा श्रेष्ठ ने गाया। इस गीत के लिए मजरूह सुल्तानपुरी को फ़िल्मफेयर पुरस्कारों में सर्वश्रेष्ठ गीतकार का नामांकन मिला जबकि इसी गीत के लिए मुकेश को सर्वश्रेष्ठ पुरुष पार्श्वगायक का नामांकन मिला।
फ़िल्म में एक और लोकप्रिय गीत "तेरे हमसफ़र गीत हैं तेरे" था जिसे आशा भोंसले, मुकेश और किशोर कुमार ने मिलकर गाया था। इसे दर्शकों के बीच बेहद पसन्द किया गया और इसने फ़िल्म की संगीतमय विरासत को स्थायी महत्व तक पहुँचाने में महत्वपूर्ण योगदान दिया।
