The collection of contemporary photographs includes photographs that are less than a hundred years old. Pivotal moments from India's history such as Henri Cartier Bresson's photographs of the days surrounding the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi constitute an integral part of the collection. Also included is a large collection of stills documenting recent socio-political events commissioned by the Reuters News Agency reflecting upon the importance of photo-journalistic practices in South Asia. A large repertoire of images produced from negatives taken by Nemai Ghosh, who was the camera person for Satyajit Ray on his film sets comprises an enchanting collection of some of the best film-stills taken on an analogue camera.
