Introduction

Amber (1952) was a costume action-romance thriller directed by Jayant Desai, with a story by Dwarka Khosla and Bachoobhai Shukla, dialogues by Munshi Sagar Hussain and Arjun Dev Rashk, and a screenplay credited to Uma Devi. Produced by Seth Jagat Narain under the Jagat Pictures banner, the film features music composed by Ghulam Mohammed.
The film starred Raj Kapoor and Nargis in lead roles, supported by Agha, Bipin Gupta, Vyas, Cuckoo, Helen, and Samson. Young Tanuja, credited as Baby Tanuja, played the child version of Nargis's character, Amber.
Set against a backdrop of palace intrigue, the story revolves around Amber, a tribal girl orphaned at a young age. Raised by her maternal grandfather, she learns her father—a prince—was mysteriously murdered and her mother died by suicide. She is later sent to live with her paternal grandfather, the King (Bipin Gupta), who grows fond of her. As Amber matures, she learns through whispers in the palace that the King may have orchestrated her father's death. Driven by vengeance, she plots to kill him.
Meanwhile, Amber falls in love with Raj (Raj Kapoor), who poses as a teacher but is actually a bandit sent by his father, a loyal servant of the King, to protect him from looming threats. The real conspirators, the King's minister Diwanji (Ramesh Sinha) and his son Johar (Nayampally), plan to assassinate the King and seize the throne. In a climactic moment, Amber and Diwanji simultaneously attempt to murder the King, but Raj intervenes, exposing the true villains. The film ends with the truth revealed and justice served.
Though Amber did not fare well at the box office, its music was a standout. Ghulam Mohammed's compositions, with lyrics by Shakeel Badayuni and vocals by Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, and Shamshad Begum, became hits. Notable songs include Hum Tum Yeh Bahar, Dil Deke Sanam, Tootegi Na Pyar Ki Dorr, and Chale Jana Tum Door. Duets and solos from the film continue to be cherished by music lovers.

अंबर (1952) एक एक्शन और रोमांस से भरी कॉस्ट्यूम ड्रामा फ़िल्म थी जिसके निर्देशक जयंत देसाई थे। इस थ्रिलर फ़िल्म के लिए इस्तेमाल हुई मूल कहानी द्वारका खोसला और बच्चूभाई शुक्ला की थी जबकि फ़िल्म के लिए संवाद मुंशी सागर हुसैन और अर्जुन देव रश्क ने लिखे थे और फ़िल्म की पटकथा उमा देवी ने लिखी थी। यह फ़िल्म सेठ जगतनारायण के 'जगत पिक्चर्स' के बैनर तले निर्मित हुई थी और इसके लिए संगीत तैयार करने का श्रेय गुलाम मोहम्मद को जाता है।
इस फ़िल्म में शीर्षक भूमिकाएँ राज कपूर और नर्गिस निभा रहे थे जबकि सहायक भूमिकाओं में आग़ा, बिपिन गुप्ता, व्यास, कुकू, हेलेन, और सैमसन जैसे कलाकार मौजूद थे। फ़िल्म में नर्गिस के केंद्रीय किरदार अंबर के बचपन की भूमिका बालिका तनुजा ने निभाई थी जिन्हें फ़िल्म में 'बेबी तनुजा' के नाम से क्रेडिट मिला।
फ़िल्म की कहानी एक राजमहल में घटती साज़िशों को अपनी कथा का आधार बनाती है। केंद्रीय किरदार अंबर एक आदिवासी लड़की है जो बचपन में ही अनाथ हो जाती है। उसे उसके ननिहाल में नाना की गोद में आसरा मिलता है। उसे मालूम पड़ता है कि उसके पिता एक राजकुमार थे और उनकी रहस्यमय तरीके से हत्या कर दी गई थी और इसी दुख में उसकी माँ ने आत्महत्या कर ली थी। आगे जाकर अंबर को उसके दादा राजाजी (बिपिन गुप्ता) के पास भेजा जाता है। राजाजी उससे पितृवत स्नेह करने लगते हैं। लेकिन जैसे-जैसे अंबर बड़ी होती है उसे राजमहल में कानोंकान टहलती फ़ुसफ़ुसाहटों से ऐसा आभास होता है कि उसके पिता की हत्या में शायद स्वयं राजाजी का हाथ था। अब वह बदला लेने के उद्देश्य से अपने ही दादा राजाजी को क़त्ल करने की योजना बनाने लगती है।
इधर अंबर की मुलाकात राज (राज कपूर) से होती है। राज एक शिक्षक के भेस में महल में आता है लेकिन वास्तव में वो एक डाकू है और राजा का वफादार सेवक, जिसे उसके पिता ने राजा की रक्षा के लिए भेजा है। असली साज़िशकर्ता दरअसल राजा के मंत्री दीवानजी (रमेश सिन्हा) और उनका बेटा जौहर (नयमपल्ली) हैं जो राजा की हत्या कर सत्ता हथियाने की योजना बनाते हैं। फ़िल्म के अन्तिम क्षणों में एक ऐसा मौका आता है जब अंबर और दीवानजी दोनों एक साथ राजा की हत्या का प्रयास करते हैं लेकिन राज ठीक समय पर बीच में आ जाता है और असली गुनहगारों का पर्दाफ़ाश कर देता है। फ़िल्म के अंत में सच्चाई और न्याय की जीत होती दिखाई गई है।
हालाँकि अंबर को टिकट खिड़की पर कोई ख़ास कामयाबी नहीं मिली लेकिन इसका संगीत दर्शकों और श्रोताओं को खूब पसन्द आया। फ़िल्म के लिए संगीत गुलाम मोहम्मद ने तैयार किया था और गीत लिखे थे शकील बदायुनी ने। इन गीतों को अपनी आवाज़ दी थी लता मंगेशकर, मोहम्मद रफ़ी और शमशाद बेग़म जैसे पार्श्वगायकों ने जिनके गाए गीतों ने खूब लोकप्रियता हासिल की। फ़िल्म के उल्लेखनीय गानों में “हम तुम ये बहार”, “दिल देकर सनम”, “टूटेगी न प्यार की डोर” और “चले जाना तुम दूर” जैसे गीत शामिल हैं। इस फ़िल्म के कई युगल और एकल गीत आज भी संगीत प्रेमियों की यादों में बसे हैं।
