Body of Work

Waterborne addresses a hypothetical situation: a highly populated urban area under terrorist attack.

With a contaminated water source, Los Angeles is in turmoil. How far will the average person go to ensure his own survival? Using a kinetic and captivating approach, Rekhi sews together three separate stories in a web of current issues that mirror our modern society. A Sikh store owner and her son become victims of racial discrimination when the mother raises the price of water during the shortage. Two college students try to flee the chaotic atmosphere and, in doing so, test the limits of their friendship. A duo of National Guardsmen are forced to confront the issue of patriotism as they become upholders of the peace during the crisis. Colliding all these vignettes into a climactic intersection, Rekhi uses jarring personal stories to create a sense of mass hysteria in the mind of the viewer.
