Introduction
Body of Work
The Land of Peace is set in 1971, during the monsoon months, in the midst of Bangladesh's War of Independence from Pakistan and the resistance of the Bangla rebels. A mixed boatload of passengers from all walks of life travel down a river, trying to avoid military attacks and moving towards the liberated zone. Their journey becomes a terrifying and painful yet enriching experience in learning what it means to be together in a time of crisis. The frightened passengers keep their hope alive by dreaming of shyamol chhaya – the land of peace.
