The Fish Fall in Love2005
Introduction
Body of Work
The Fish Fall in Love is a simple and gentle film, a story of unrequited love, that adapts the language of food (the cuisine of northern Iran) to speak of life. Aziz returns to Iran after an absence of 25 years to take possession of the remaining portion of his father's abandoned estate. On his arrival he discovers not only the home he left, but also Atieh, the woman he loved and abandoned, still living in his house. His former family home is now a thriving, popular restaurant run by four independent and spirited women. They have done good business, created fantastic and delicious dishes and seem happy and satisfied with their lives - until Aziz turns up. Aziz still owns the place, however, and the women fear he is going to kick them out. Adding to the tension is that Atieh thinks Aziz had decided to simply take off all those years ago, but the truth is he had been thrown in jail. Emotions run high in this colorful jewel of a film as the conflicting parties seek a resolution.
