शेर-ए-अफ़ग़ान (1966) के निर्देशक बलदेव आर. झिंगन थे। यह एक रोमांच से भरी ऐतिहासिक फ़िल्म थी। इस फ़िल्म में हीरालाल, निशी कोहली और प्रेमनाथ मल्होत्रा प्रमुख भूमिकाएँ निभा रहे थे। यह फ़िल्म वफ़ादारी, सम्मान और टकराव जैसे मुद्दों के इर्द-गिर्द एक ऐसी कथा बुनती है जो ऐतिहासिक घटनाओं को अपनी पृष्ठभूमि के बतौर इस्तेमाल कर रही है। अपने प्रभावशाली दृश्यविधान और दिलचस्प किरदारों के चलते यह फ़िल्म साठ के दशक में बनी ऐतिहासिक कथानक आधारित फ़िल्मों का एक आकर्षक उदाहरण मानी जाती है।

इस फ़िल्म के लिए संगीत उस वक्त की दिग्गज संगीतकार जोड़ी हुस्नलाल भगतराम ने तैयार किया था और इसके लिए गीतों के बोल प्रसिद्ध गीतकार हसरत जयपुरी ने लिखे थे। फ़िल्म की रिलीज़ वाले साल ही ईपी के रूप में जारी हुए इसके गीतों के लिए जानी-मानी पार्श्वगायिका सुमन कल्याणपुर और गायक मुकेश ने अपनी आवाज़ें दीं। फ़िल्म के यादगार गीतों में सुमन कल्याणपुर और मुकेश का गाया युगल गीत “ऐ बहार-ए-ज़िंदगी तुम मिल गई” रहा और सुमन कल्याणपुर की आवाज़ में फ़िल्म के अन्य एकल गीत “आजा रे सनम”, “फूल इतने कभी” और “ऐ दो जहाँ के मालिक” भी पसन्द किये गए। इन गीतों ने भी फ़िल्म की अपील को बढ़ाया।
कलात्मक नज़रिये से फ़िल्म की खूबियों और प्रेमनाथ, निशी कोहली और उल्हास जैसे कलाकारों के उल्लेखनीय अभिनय के बावजूद इस फ़िल्म के व्यावसायिक प्रदर्शन के बारे में सीमित जानकारी ही उपलब्ध है। इसे अपने कथ्य और निर्माण की भव्यता के लिए सराहा गया लेकिन शेर-ए-अफ़ग़ान को टिकट खिड़की पर कामयाब फ़िल्म कहा जा सके इसके पर्याप्त सबूत उपलब्ध नहीं हैं।
