Shakha Proshakha, is a portrayal of family dissentions in the context of a somewhat superficial scrutiny of morality. In the opening sequence, captured in this still, two elements are established: the pivotal character of Ananda Majumdar, and the explanation of mental derangement of his second son, Prashanta. Prasanta has incurred the mental disability in a motoring accident in England, many years ago. _x000d_ It is Ananda's seventieth birthday, his other three sons who won't be coming on the occasion, have sent their greetings and gifts from Calcutta. Later in the day, there will be a public felicitation in his honour.
