Body of Work

Billed as a supernatural love story, Rouge is a stunning melodrama about a passionate romance and lost history. Fleur is a 1930s high- class courtesan in one of Hong Kong's night clubs. A beautiful and detached performer, she falls in love with Twelfth Master Chan Chen- Pang, the dashing son of a wealthy business family that disapproves of their union. After a brief but intense courtship, the two agree to a suicide pact so they can be together in the afterworld. Yet once there, Fleur discovers that she is alone. After waiting 50 years for her beloved, she re-emerges in modern Hong Kong, wanting to find Chan. But the city she once knew has by and large disappeared: the brothel where she worked is now a kindergarten. As Fleur's spirit grows weaker, the search continues, leading to results that are both sad and ironic.
