Rekados2006
Introduction
Body of Work
Rekados is a magic-realist tragi-comedy of three generations of cooks who live in the slums and own an eating joint. Josefina is the matriarch whose traditional skills in cooking keep the family alive; Laura, the daughter, prefers cooking to please her customers and the man she desires; and caught in between the two is Pinay, the granddaughter. In their small world of the kitchen that empowers and imprisons them, they cook dishes that symbolise their affections: adobo, kare-kare, dinuguan and pansit. Each of them brings different flavours as they mix with each other and the men of their desires. They cook different dishes that speak of their lives and loves and in doing so, inadvertently repeat history, no matter how much they try to escape it.
