The film's success stood in sharp contrast to Raj Kapoor's earlier release that same year, Sunehre Din, which failed to make a mark at the box office. Parivartan not only resonated with audiences but was later remade in Hindi under the title Jagriti, further testifying to its impact and popularity.

परिवर्तन (1949) के निर्देशक एन. आर. आचार्या थे और इसमें अभिनेता राज कपूर ने मुख्य भूमिका निभाई थी। इस फ़िल्म को मिली उल्लेखनीय व्यावसायिक कामयाबी राज कपूर के नायकीय करियर में एक महत्वपूर्ण मोड़ पर आई। इस फ़िल्म को मिली सफलता उसी वर्ष आई राज कपूर की एक अन्य फ़िल्म सुनहरे दिन के व्यावसायिक प्रदर्शन के ठीक उलट रही। सुनहरे दिन टिकट खिड़की पर कोई खास प्रभाव नहीं छोड़ सकी थी। लेकिन परिवर्तन को दर्शकों ने इतना पसन्द किया कि कुछ समय बाद हिन्दी सिनेमा में इसे जागृति शीर्षक से रीमेक किया गया। इस फ़िल्म को उस दौर में मिली लोकप्रियता का यह प्रमाण है।
इस फ़िल्म के साथ एक और ख़ास बात जुड़ी है। आगे जाकर फ़िल्मकार के बतौर नाम कमानेवाले तपन सिन्हा इसमें तकनीकी सहयोगी के बतौर काम कर रहे थे। इस फ़िल्म का साउंड डिज़ाइन का जिम्मा उन्होंने संभाला था। फ़िल्म में सिन्हा के इस योगदान को सराहना भी मिली और यह फ़िल्म आगे जाकर उनके एक कामयाब तकनीशियन और फ़िल्मकार बनने की दिशा में अहम पड़ाव साबित हुई।
परिवर्तन के मार्मिक संगीत ने इसकी लोकप्रियता में अहम भूमिका निभाई। मोहम्मद रफ़ी की आवाज़ में गाये फ़िल्म के कुछ प्रमुख गीत थे ऐ दुनिया हम पर रहम करना, सता ले जितना सताया जो कि इंसानी सहनशक्ति और उम्मीद जैसे भावों को छूता था, दुनिया बदल गई, हमारे दिल बदल गए जो किरदार के भावनात्मक सफ़र का चित्र खींचता है और यादगार गीत हसरत लिए हुए हैं, तमन्ना लिए हुए हैं जिसके बोलों में एक गहरी तड़प और आत्मचिंतन झलकता है।
