Scene DescriptionRay clearly shows how Shyamalendu's world is removed from the crises of reality; their reality as seen from nightclubs, shopping windows, beauty parlours, high rises and the binoculars of the race course, is a different reality. It is a world apart from Siddhartha or Somnath's experience in Pratidwandi and Jana Aranya (the first and third films of the Calcutta triptych), dogged by the drudgery of unemployment, corruption and uncertainty. Tutul maintains more than a little distance from Shyamal's world throughout the film and only goes close enough to immediately retract from it. (5/24)
