Scene DescriptionThe distraught and grieving Jhuria comes running toward Ghasiram's house, crying out for an answer to the simple question, “Why did you let him die?” The brahman’s wife is able to bar the doors in time to ward off yet another 'low-caste nuisance' as they figure out how to dispose Dukhi's body without defiling themselves, for the body is blocking their way to the well and will soon start to sink as the community has declined moving 'it'.
