Scene DescriptionGhasiram’s return to his charpoy is followed by a surrealistic sequence of shots depicting Dukhi’s frenzy with the axe for the sake of his daughter. This will be the narrative end for Dukhi where the poor man’s heart gives out under the excessive duress inflicted on his weakened body. There is one stroke too many and he drops dead beside his invincible adversary. But even in death Dukhi will be a threat to Ghasiram’s serenity, for the good brahman’s sleep is once again interrupted, this time by his son’s telling him that the chamar is lying dead beside the uncut log.
