Film TitlePather Panchali (Song of the Little Road), 1955, India, Bengali
Scene DescriptionDurga grows up to be an untamable and intelligent girl with an innate relationship with nature. Her days are spent roaming the outdoors and foraging the woods in the vicinity of the village, making play with the other children and collecting the odd fruit that falls out of the neighbour's trees. She earns the scorn of many for being unmannered. Unlike her brother, she is not destined to progress through education. She is to be domesticated and betroathed to a suitable boy. (3/9)
