Nayak (The Hero), 1966, India, Bengali
Scene Description Arindam is reticent about the interview Aditi proposes to take. He thinks the public knows everything there is to know about him. More specifically, they know what he wants to be known. Aditi thinks otherwise. But Arindam draws a line between privacy and publicity. He hints that to remain a 'hero', he must retain the star profile and be a 'nayak' outside the screen as well. He prefers to be the hero who remians in the lights and shadows rather than being a man of flesh and blood. Despite maintaining his defence, as the film progresses, Arindam articulates a few things in a manner of introspecting his own past. (5/22)
