Nayak (The Hero), 1966, India, Bengali
Scene Description The film commences with a brief introductory section as acting superstar Arindam Mukherjee (Uttam Kumar) prepares to leave for his journey to the capital city of Delhi, to receive a prestigious national award. The snatches of dialogue with a Marwari producer at Arindam's tastefully opulent flat, opens two possibilities-one of his signing a contract indicating that he has his hands dipped in a number of profitable pies and the second, of his withdrawal to sign on account of a newspaper report referring to a recent incident of his assault on a man at the club which makes his public image dicey. To steer clear of trouble, he is reticent about taking up a new project. It might mean failure for him and the producer who depends on his stardom. (1/22)
