Scene Description Arati gets her first salary and brings gifts for everyone at home. Pintu gets fashionable toys, Bani gets her first new saree, Subrata a new tin of branded cigarettes and Sarojini gets her much loved jorda (tobacco). It is Priyagopal's birthday and Arati commemorates it with an offering of money which the old man declines. He still ostensibly rejects the idea of her working in public. Arati is surprised by his brand new pair of glasses but no one knows where they came from. (11/17)
