Scene Description Bhoot has the twin meaning of the ghost and the past. The dance is figuratively the dance of time. The ghosts are of the erstwhile royals in battle, court dancers, of the tribals and peasants performing a war dance with their spears and shields, to the colonisers and indigo planters with their typical high boots and walking sticks, to the final pattern of pot-bellied ghosts indicative of the capitalists, the city dwelling money lenders and padres whom Ray calls the "Noni Gopal" class. The king of the ghosts bestow the duo with magical powers- the power to conjure food and clothes by clapping their hands, teleporting shoes to go where they wish and the magical power that makes their song so persuasive that the listener gets arrested in time and space.
