Film TitleDevi (The Goddess), 1960, India, Bengali
Scene DescriptionDoyamoyee has degenerated into a melancholic shadow of herself. Kalikinkar's desperate fanaticism has upended her life over-night. She sits in the place of the devi's idol, without any agency to protest. Creating this image of Doya is the closest attempt that Ray makes to decry the intersection of orthodox Hinduism and femininity (13/30)
