Scene Description Soumitra Chatterjee features in Abhijan as the driver of a worn down taxi car- a 1930 Chrysler. He is a Kshatriya by caste, descendent of a Rajput warrior aristocracy. The ancestry of the man is central to his character and drives a significant portion of his narrative. The monopoly taxi business has ruined his financial condition and his wife has fled with another man. Narsingh (Soumitra Chatterjee) is bitter and especially hateful towards women, often violent and confrontational with fellow drivers who make fun of his hollow pride. (1/4)
