Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose (1897–1945) was among the most influential and fearless leaders of India’s struggle for independence. Born in Cuttack, Odisha, he was an exceptional student who later cleared the Indian Civil Services examination in England. However, driven by deep patriotism and a strong sense of justice, he resigned from the prestigious service to dedicate his life to India’s freedom. Bose believed that political freedom required decisive action and was critical of approaches he felt were too slow or compromising. His ideological differences with the Indian National Congress leadership eventually led him to seek alternative paths to independence. During World War II, he travelled extensively across Europe and Southeast Asia to gather international support against British rule. His most significant contribution was the formation and leadership of the Indian National Army (INA), composed largely of Indian soldiers and expatriates. With the powerful slogan, “Give me blood, and I shall give you freedom,” Netaji inspired extraordinary courage and sacrifice among his followers. The INA’s campaigns, though militarily limited, had a profound psychological impact on the British Empire. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose remains a symbol of uncompromising nationalism, discipline, and selfless devotion to the nation. His life and ideals continue to inspire Indians to value freedom, courage, and national unity.
