Introduction

Nala Damayanti (1945) A historical romance film based on the legendary love story from the Indian epic, the Mahabharata, it follows the tale of King Nala and Princess Damayanti, whose deep love is tested by fate. After a fateful dice game, Nala loses his kingdom and is separated from Damayanti. Despite enduring immense hardship, the two are eventually reunited, showcasing timeless themes of love, sacrifice, and loyalty.

The film was produced by Janak Pictures and directed by Kumar Sen Samarth. The cast featured prominent actors of the time, including Shobhna Samarth, Dalpat, Gulab, Prithvi, Trilok Kapoor, Mishra, and David. Interestingly, Shobhna Samarth later married the film's director and also the cinematographer, Kumar Sen Samarth.

Details about the music of the 1945 film remain scarce. However, a separate Telugu film with the same title, Nala Damayanthi (1957), featured a soundtrack composed by B. Gopalam. Notable songs from the 1957 version include Alathe Illada Ninna Maya, performed by Ghantasala and Hunsur Krishnamurthy, and Kalahamsa Palikina, sung by P. Bhanumathi and Samudrala.
