Introduction

Nai Zindagi (1969) A family drama directed by veteran filmmaker Dada Pathare and produced under the banner of Naaz Productions, the film starred Dev Kumar and Kumkum in the lead roles, both of whom were well-known faces in Hindi cinema during the 1960s. Dev Kumar often played character and supporting roles, while Kumkum was a popular actress known for her performances in films like Mother India (1957), Mr. X in Bombay (1964), and Geet (1970).
The supporting cast featured an impressive lineup of notable actors, including the legendary Prithviraj Kapoor, a pioneer of Indian theatre and cinema; Jeevan Dhar, known for his villainous roles; Ram Mohan, Meenaxi, Niranjan Sharma, Jagirdar, and Ratnamala, all of whom had considerable presence in supporting and character roles in Bollywood's golden era. Despite the ensemble cast, the film did not manage to leave a lasting impact in cinematic memory.
One of the more enduring aspects of Nai Zindagi was its music, composed by the prolific and melodious Chitragupta. The film's soundtrack featured several memorable numbers, notably Mere Paon Mein Bandho Sitare and Bikhri Hai Laten Nagan Ki Tarah, both sung by the legendary Lata Mangeshkar. Another song, Bura Suno Na Bura Kaho, also rendered by Lata, carried a moral undertone in keeping with the film's family-oriented theme. Asha Bhosle's solo Dheere Dheere Chalna gained popularity for its soft, romantic appeal, showcasing Chitragupta's flair for melody.
Despite the strong musical score, the film appears to have faded into obscurity. There is little archival information available regarding its box office performance or critical reception. Its absence from most retrospectives and filmographies suggests that it likely did not perform well commercially or receive significant critical acclaim upon its release. नई ज़िन्दगी (1969) एक पारिवारिक ड्रामा फ़िल्म थी जिसका निर्देशन वरिष्ठ फ़िल्मकार दादा पठारे ने किया था। इसका निर्माण 'नाज़ प्रोडक्शंस' के बैनर तले हुआ था। इस फ़िल्म में देव कुमार और कुमकुम ने मुख्य भूमिकाएँ निभाईं थी। 1960 के दशक के हिन्दी सिनेमा के ये दोनों ही लोकप्रिय चेहरे थे। देव कुमार अक्सर फ़िल्मों में चरित्र भूमिकाओं में दिखाई देते थे जबकि कुमकुम को मदर इंडिया (1957), मिस्टर एक्स इन बॉम्बे (1964) और गीत (1970) जैसी फ़िल्मों में उनके अभिनय के लिए जाना जाता था।
फ़िल्म के अन्य सहायक कलाकारों में भारतीय रंगमंच और सिनेमा के पुरोधा पृथ्वीराज कपूर, खलनायक की भूमिकाएँ करने के लिए प्रसिद्ध जीवन धर, राम मोहन, मीनाक्षी, निरंजन शर्मा, जागीरदार और रत्नमाला जैसे बड़े नाम शामिल थे। यह सभी नाम हिन्दी सिनेमा का स्वर्ण युग कहे जानेवाले पचास के दशक में सहायक और चरित्र भूमिकाओं में मज़बूत उपस्थिति रखते थे। लकिन इतने बड़े-बड़े कलाकारों की सहायक भूमिकाओं में मौजूदगी के बावजूद यह फ़िल्म सिनेमा के इतिहास में स्थायी छाप नहीं छोड़ पाई।
नई ज़िन्दगी का सबसे यादगार पहलू इसका संगीत रहा जिसे सुरीले और बहुमुखी प्रतिभा के धनी संगीतकार चित्रगुप्त ने तैयार किया था। इस फ़िल्म में कई यादगार गीत शामिल थे जिनमें लता मंगेशकर के गाए "मेरे पाँव में बाँधो सितारे" और "बिखरी है लटें नागिन की तरह" प्रमुख थे। लता की ही आवाज़ में फ़िल्म का एक और गीत "बुरा सुनो ना बुरा कहो" एक ऐसा नैतिक संदेश अपने भीतर लिए हुए था जो फ़िल्म के पारिवारिक विषय से मेल खाता था। इसके साथ ही आशा भोंसले का गाया एकल गीत "धीरे धीरे चलना" अपनी कोमल और रोमांटिक धुन के चलते लोकप्रिय हुआ और इसने चित्रगुप्त की मधुर धुनों पर संगीतरचना के क्रम को आगे बढ़ाया।
लेकिन सशक्त संगीत के बावजूद यह फ़िल्म समय के साथ गुमनामी में खो गई। इसके टिकट खिड़की पर प्रदर्शन या इसे मिली आलोचकीय प्रतिक्रिया के बारे में बहुत कम जानकारी मिलती है। अधिकांश यादगार पुरानी फ़िल्मों की सूचियों से इसकी अनुपस्थिति यह संकेत देती है कि संभवतः यह फ़िल्म व्यावसायिक रूप से सफल नहीं रही थी और न ही इसे विशेष आलोचकीय प्रशंसा हासिल हुई। यह फ़िल्म 1960 के दशक के उत्तरार्ध में आई उन अनेक फ़िल्मों में से एक मानी जा सकती है जिनसे प्रतिभाशाली लोग जुड़े थे और इनमें संभावनाएँ थीं, लेकिन वे हिन्दी सिनेमा के इतिहास में अपनी स्थायी विरासत नहीं छोड़ पाईं।
