A young television journalist, Sudheshne, is assigned the job of investigating the trail of a murder that leads her to her native village. But as she begins her enquiries, she discovers something quite startling: so massive has been the exodus to urban areas that rural Karnataka in general, and this village in particular, has been emptied of its inhabitants, particularly the young. Only the old have been left behind with their memories. Sudheshne also discovers how vested interests, and even the media, use the murder to further their own advantage. Sudheshne is confused both by the demands and compulsions of her job and the disheartening situation in the countryside. She is led to question her own place in the scheme of things.
